The Genesis of R I District 3202 can be traced to the establishment of Rotary Club of Cochin in the year 1937. This was followed by establishment of clubs in Madurai and Salem leading to the creation of a new District, 91 in 1942 with redefined geographical limits of the then Madras Presidency, all Southern Princely States and Ceylon [now Sri Lanka]. Subsequent to the formation of a Rotary Club in Nilgiris, District 91 was bifurcated into Districts 93 and 94 with the latter having geographical limits of Madras State, Travancore, Cochin, Pudukottai and Ceylon.
